R&D Principal Engineer

Your role and responsibilities

As an R&D Engineer, you will be responsible for the Research, Design, and Development of Firmware for ABB Power Protection products like High Power and Modular UPS in Quartino, Switzerland. You participate in defining and evolving best practices and guidelines for the Firmware R&D functional area working in a global Agile Team and understand ABB UPS product architecture and designs.The work model for the role is hybrid. #LI-hybridYou will be mainly accountable for:•Running simulation and design studies as well as proposing solutions to critical problems and optimization ideas.•Handling change requests, product localization, optimization, and life cycle management in your functional area.•Creating and managing technical documentation and reports supporting highly effective and dynamic R&D operations. •Collaborating within the team and other functional teams to manage the deliverables and improve R&D efficiency.

Qualifications for the role
 

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in firmware development for power products (multi-core processors, DSPs, or microcontrollers).
• Firmware development for inverters, converters, chargers, state machine control, and inter-module communications.
• Programming experience in C, C++, and simulation tools like MATLAB as well as knowledge of continuous integration tools like git, Azure DevOps, or equivalent.
• Sound knowledge of Software Architecture and Development life cycle.
• Experience in converting complex power control algorithms and closed-loop control systems into programmable logic.
• Fluency in English, Italian is a plus.
